 ... Worship in a Barrier-Free Venue We kept hearing from people who had been unable to find a local barrier-free church, or encountered major challenges just getting there. According to recent government studies, only about 48% of all public buildings in America today are considered to be "reasonably" accessible, according to current ADA guidelines ... And these same shameful accessibility statistics apply to churches and other houses of worship as much as they apply to any buildings in America that are open to the public. With these statistics, it isn't surprising that many people with disabilities have been finding it very difficult to attend church regularly — if at all. So we launched this Worship Resource to help America's faith community meet that challenge! We have included information on local churches in some areas that are very accessible; and we have also included a wealth of church services, Bible study resources, and religious discussion available online. As you might imagine, the Internet is a great venue for study, including Spiritual Study. Now, you'll never have to miss Church again, no matter what the nature or extent of your disability or whatever the weather might happen to be. Right here, you will find many "streaming video" portals here that offer a wealth of religious discussions, study programs, religious service broadcasts, many versions (and translations) of the Bible, as well as links to teachings of other religions, in America and around the world. We've catalogued quite a few of these resources for you on our "Worship" website, along with a brief commentary about each resource by a member of the BFC Staff who has personally reviewed that particular resource. And we've also provided more than a few links here to take you to some excellent libraries! We hope you enjoy this section, and decide to make it a regular part of your spiritual journey. We also ask that you let us know about any barrier-free Churches or other Houses of Worship in your neighborhood so that we can help others in their quest to worship in a truly barrier-free environment!
